Pokémon Mystery Dungeon
Ever wonder what it would be like to be a Pikachu duking it out with a Squirtle in a battlefield? Probably not. But who cares? They made a video game out of it anyway, entitled: Pokémon Mystery Dungeon.
The game is simple enough, you are the Pokémon, having no master other than yourself. Apparently, you were somehow turned into a Pokémon and you go through the game trying to figure out how it happened, and how you can turn back into a human. You choose a pokémon partner in the very beginning of the game, who then promises to help you until you can figure out what to do. You eventually form a rescue team and run around the world searching for jobs or rescue missions to take. When you accept a mission, you travel into the appropriate "dungeon" and fight your way through dozens of wild Pokémon in order to complete it. Seems fun right? It is. But only during the first couple of times. The game is so repetitive it is almost boggles the mind. After the first few trips into a dungeon you would expect something exciting to happen, nothing does. Throughout the entirety of the game, you are forced to enter randomly generated dungeons and defeat countless enemies, all for the sake of rescuing a stranded Pokémon.
Maybe I'm being too harsh, you be the judge. But for now, I am the judge of this game. One more little annoying detail was the fact that they completely missed out on the cooperative gameplay option. For a game that promotes teamwork, it's quite ironic that it doesn't give you the option of running around with a real life buddy of yours. The ability to link up with a friend and battle would even be enough to save this game from sheer embarassment, but unfortunately, this game is found to be severely lacking.
Sure enough, we can all remember the good old days when we first ran around the world of Pokémon in our Red or Blue versions. Being a fan of the original RPG's, i had high hopes for the latest installment of the series. But along with the previous spin-offs to the game, Nintendo has once again failed not only me, but thousands of hopefuls around the world. At first glance, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon looked to be the greatest Pokémon game ever created. The gameplay looked to be unparalleled by any other game in the series. They say that the first impression is everything, and with this game, it seems like that's all Nintendo was counting on.
