McDonald's May Begin to Offer Breakfast All Day

Big Daddy, we all saw it, and we all remember it. Sonny Koufax walking "Frankenstein" down the streets of Manhattan trying to get to McDonald's as fast as possible. After several stops and detours, the two finally arrive at McDonald's only to discover that they are 30 minutes late for breakfast. Sonny throws a tantrum and little Julius starts crying his eyes out only to be comforted by a Happy Meal. We can't help but to laugh at the situation, until the same exact thing happens to us.

With rumors flying around that McDonald's will be serving breakfast all day, the world may finally be able to sleep in and still be able to get a Deluxe Big Breakfast. The McDonald's Corporation is considering the change with a new upcoming restaurant layout that will allow them to prepare a majority of food at once. Most fast food restaurants stop serving breakfast at a certain time because the required temperatures for cooking are different with the types of food. This means that the cooking surface temperature would need to be changed every time customers order hotcakes and burgers. McDonald's CEO Jim Skinner said the company would soon implement a new operating system that would finally make it possible to serve breakfast throughout the day.

The change was inspired by the increase in competition from rival fast-food restaurants. Competition from Wendy's, which has recently created its own breakfast menu, and Jack in the Box, which started to serve its breakfast menu throughout the day, has put the pressure on McDonald's and is testing it's ability to perform. Not only that, Starbucks has begun to emerge in the breakfast business with the numerous drive-throughs and early morning sandwhiches and breakfast rolls. McDonald's recently responded to the "coffee threat" by improving the strength and quality of its coffee and adding the McGriddles sandwhich to it's growing menu.

Breakfast has always played a major role in sales, so it is no surprise that the company will be taking full advantage of it. Offering breakfast all day would escalate McDonald's even further than it has already gone, and also provide more than enough ammunition to win the Fast-food war. If McDonald's follows through with it's claims, missing breakfast will be a thing of the past.
